Bridge – The armies of Vietnam and China
should promote dissemination of information on traditional friendship between
the two countries and continue to co-ordinate at the multilateral forums, says
senior Lieutenant-General Do Ba Ty.
During
his visit to China, the chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army
held talks with a high-level delegation from the Chinese People's Liberation
Army's (PLA) led by its Commander-in-Chief Chen Bingde on April 16.
Ty
affirmed that the Vietnam-China relationship has been developing into a
comprehensive strategic partnership. The Vietnamese Party, State, and People’s
Army have always treasured China’s valuable support for their past struggle for
national liberation and reunification and present cause of national
construction.
He said
both sides have effectively implemented the contents of the Protocol signed
between the two ministries of defense in 2003 and other cooperative agreements.
They have regularly exchanged high-level delegations and arranged for the two
navies and border guards to conduct joint patrols and rescue missions to
maintain security and order and combat crime.
Regarding
the East Sea issue, both sides agreed to strictly implement the signed
agreements including the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement
of sea-related issues.
After
analyzing the international and regional situation and assessing the
cooperative results among the two armies, both sides also agreed to implement
the contents of the signed protocol in 2003, strengthen the exchange of
high-ranking delegations, cooperate in staff training and actively contribute
to building a mechanism for the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM+),
in order to raise the two armies’ status in the region for the sake of peace
cooperation and development.
