TAW (Xinhua) - The 32nd conference of
the ASEAN Chiefs of Police (ASEANAPOL) ended here Thursday with a joint
statement issued, according to a press release of the conference.
The
three-day conference, which began on Tuesday, was chaired by Myanmar Police
Chief Police Major-General Kyaw Kyaw Tun who took over the chairmanship from
his Lao counterpart Police Brigadier-General Cesar Bat Malabon.
The
conference discussed cooperation in such areas as combating illicit drug
trafficking, terrorism, arms smuggling, human trafficking, maritime fraud,
commercial crime, bank offenses and credit card fraud, cybercrime, fraudulent
documents, transnational fraud, progress on electronic ASEANAPOL database
system and mutual assistance in criminal matters, the release said.
The
heads of delegations exchanged views on progress and ways ahead in the
implementation of various operational measures.
The
conference also agreed on the implementation of proposals on strengthening
cooperation with dialogue partners in combating crimes, the release added.
It was
the second time for Myanmar to host the ASEANAPOL conference. The first one was
in 2000.
Myanmar
joined the ASESAN in 1997 and became a member of ASEANAPOL in 1998.
This
year's conference was attended by delegates from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia,
Laos, Malaysia, host Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam
as well as representatives from five dialogue partner countries -- China,
Japan, South Korea, New Zealand and Australia and those from INTERPOL
Secretariat, ASEAN Secretariat and ASEAN Police Force Secretary Office.
The
31st ASEANAPOL conference was held in Vientiane, Laos in May-June 2011.
The
first formal meeting of ASEANAPOL took place in Manila, Philippines in 1981
with the participation of five original member countries, namely Indonesia,
Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
