Vietnam - Education news in brief for Friday

* FPT University, under Vietnam’s flagship technology firm FPT, has said it will grant automatic admissions to 50 high school graduates who have won third prizes or above in math, physics, chemistry, biology, informatics, and English in the 2012 national academic contests.

It will also award full scholarships, worth VND200 million each, to those students during their four years at the school.

Scholarship winners will have a chance to enroll in the computer science major with an option to study overseas and go straight to the doctoral level upon graduation.

Applications should be submitted by May 30. Visit http://tuyensinh.fpt.edu.vn/thong-bao-tuyen-sinh for more information.

* The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has asked the local People’s Committee for permission to recruit teachers who have registered their temporary residence in the city for public kindergartens and elementary schools in the 2012-13 school year, according to Van Cong Sang, chief of personnel at the department.

City regulations stipulate that K-12 public schools can only recruit teachers with a registered permanent residence.

HCMC districts, especially those on the outskirts, are suffering from a shortage of preschool and elementary school teachers, Sang explains.

Sang added that the city will give high priority to those graduating from pedagogical schools during the recruiting process.

* The International University under the Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City will enroll graduates of the International Baccalaureate programs, according to Dr Ho Thanh Phong, its president.

The school will admit these applicants on the basis of their high school performance and English proficiency, Dr Phong elaborates.

It will interview them to check their foundation knowledge, personal motivations, and learning skills before officially accepting them into its undergraduate programs, the president says.

* Vietnamese multi-business conglomerate C.T Group has announced that it will receive 500 interns for its 36 subsidiaries this year.

The interns must be college and junior college students who will do their internships across the group’s businesses.

Those who perform well during the internships will be recruited by C.T with a competitive remuneration package.

Further information on this internship program can be obtained at http://ctgroupvietnam.com/web/www/?cgi=about&catid=0.
