Vietnam - Schools found jointly running unlicensed courses

A university located in the northern city of Hai Phong has been discovered offering unauthorized joint courses in cooperation with one junior college and two other trade schools, according to the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET).

The tertiary school, Hai Phong Medical University, was found working with Van Hien Medicine and Pharmacy Vocational School, situated in the central province of Thanh Hoa, to run a medicine course for 28 students without a license granted by the ministry.

Inspection results have revealed that the university faked the education minister’s signature on the student list of the course.

The school was also found inking deals with Ninh Binh Medical College, based in the northern province of Ninh Binh, and Thang Long Medicine and Pharmacy Vocational School, located in the northern province of Bac Ninh, to offer vocational courses without seeking any approval from the education watchdog.

MoET has demanded that the schools rectify the situation, scrap all of the illegitimate courses, and transfer all of the students to other authorized classes by June 5.

It previously banned higher education schools from offering vocational courses in any form from the 2012-2013 academic year, starting in September, onwards.
