World - Are Social Network Sites Really Free for Marketers?

Social networking sites, especially Facebook and Twitter have experienced huge growth over the last few years, but at what cost to marketers? Your website is your asset, the social network sites are only the marketing tool. Use them wisely to benefit getting traffic back to your site.

With an estimating 132+ million people in the US alone to use Facebook this year, the growth that  it is seeing is primarily amongst the older boomer generation and seniors. However, teens and young adults will continue to form the huge base of Facebook’s audience.

Because of these amazing traffic levels, more and more businesses are taking on the concept that joining and marketing on these sites is a great opportunity not to be missed! But at what cost? Is if really free?

Although we like the idea of free advertising to get the word out about what we have to offer, it does cost us something, something very precious and which effects our ROI. It is our TIME!

Time – We can get more money but we can’t get more time! Although this may seem obvious and minimal when getting a business to succeed online it should be taken into consideration. Heard the saying “time is money” it is true for business. The advertising “cost” lays in your time spent. What value can you place on this?

If you are spending hours a week tweeting on Twitter and updating your wall on Facebook and other social sites you must be receiving a return on your invested time or something must change. So, are social network sites really free for marketers? – I would say yes and no. However social sites offer a great online marketing opportunity and you need not be deterred. Just remember to “give people what they want” what are they looking for online? If you are spending lots of time for little return re think your campaign.

Don’t forget, your website is an asset, the social media network sites are only the marketing tool. Use them wisely and benefit greatly with getting traffic back to your web site.
