Brunei
Entrepreneurship Education Scheme launched
A TOTAL of 400 students from 17 educational institutions nationwide are
set to embark on a 20-week business project as part of the newly launched
Brunei Entrepreneurship Education Scheme (BEES) to hone their entrepreneurship
skills and knowledge.
The Brunei Entrepreneurship Education Scheme (BEES) is Brunei Shell
Petroleum's (BSP) latest initiative in developing entrepreneurship in Brunei,
in partnership with the Ministry of Education (MoE) and University Brunei
Darussalam with LiveWIRE Brunei as the training centre.
The scheme is in line with the MoE's strategic plan that focuses on
entrepreneurial skills in the 21st Century National Education System (SPN21)
curriculum and Brunei's Vision 2035.
LiveWIRE Brunei has been designated as the centre for BEES as a
"hive" to support the programme. The BEES hive provides the students
ranging from secondary, technical and vocational institutions with business
networking opportunities to meet, discuss and brainstorm ideas with the
LiveWIRE counsellors and their school advisors.
The Acting Minister of Education, Dato Seri Setia Hj Yusoff Hj Ismail,
launched the scheme and its official website (www.beesprogramme.com) yesterday
at the Ballroom, fourth floor, Hua Ho Manggis.
The acting minister said the programme was an added value to the
teaching and learning sources, as well as structure provided by the MoE.
Entrepreneurship is one of the main focuses of SPN21 and will play an
important role towards building a dynamic and sustainable economy for the
country's National Vision 2035.
"The BEES programme is in line with the ministry's strategic plan
that focuses on entrepreneurial skills in the (SPN21) curriculum. The National
Vision 2035 that must be achieved 23 years from now is aimed at making Brunei a
country that posses educated and skilled people, high standard of living and to
place the country in the top 10 in terms of per capita income," he said.
"We (the ministry) hope the BEES programme will become a catalyst
in changing the students' attitude, way of thinking and actions, (for them) to
be more mature and show interest in entrepreneurship and business."
"Young entrepreneurs who are knowledgeable and confident must be
ready to explore new sources of economies, and be prepared in the face of new
challenges and opportunities," he added.
"We all need to be determined to take that bold step in implementing
all the plans towards our ambition."
Dato Hj Yusoff said the programme received encouraging response and the
ministry is happy on the development and confident that it is a positive sign
towards diversifying the country's economy in the future.
This programme focuses on learning through observing real-life
experiences by conducting businesses, which they will manage throughout the
school term.
The educational programme aims to help students to develop attitudes
and skills for entrepreneurship, personal success, lifelong learning and
employability, among others. The experience will provide students with the
skills to succeed outside of the classrooms and awareness that entrepreneurship
is a career field that they can ventured into, he added.
