Vietnam - As disorderly as the classes at experimental school

VietNamNet Bridge – While sending children to the Giang Vo Experimental School is the dream of many parents, other people say they feel discouraged about the new education model followed by the school.

The students, who do not know how to pay respect to adults

The thing that one would see when entering the experimental school is that a lot of children playing freely on the school yard or the corridors in front of classrooms. Their attitudes and facial features show that they feel happy with their study at the school.

However, one would feel astonished when realizing that the students here do not have the habit of “exchanging greetings.” A child accidentally collided with the reporter, and he quickly ran away without saying “sorry.”

When the reporters arrived, the children were continuing playing, even though this was for the first time they saw the strange guests. Meanwhile, the guests still expected the greetings from the children.

The people, who got used to the traditional education method at state owned schools, would feel upset over the disorder they can witness at the classes of the Giang Vo Experimental School. Even after the teacher entered the classroom, the children kept playing and they did not realize that the lesson hour began.

The students of a class were seen only standing up and greeting the teacher after the teacher’s request. Especially, the students only made greetings to the guests – the reporters, who attended the teaching hour.

And when a guest went out of the classroom, leaving a camera and a color book, some students spontaneously took the camera and the book without asking for the permission of the guest.

And the visitors would feel terrible if students do not concentrate during the lesson hours. They can chat with each other in the class, while their voices seem to be even louder than the voices of the teachers.

When the teacher asked students to show their opinions, a lot of students stood up and expressed their opinions at the same time. Meanwhile, at other schools, students would be able to speak after they get the permission from teachers.

When the guests said goodbye to the students and left the class, they had not heard the reply until the teacher asked her students to say goodbye. Especially, someone used English to communicate with the guests. “Bye bye. See you again.”

A parent has said after he attended the lesson hour that he would never agree to send his children to the school and bear such a strange education method.

“The students here even do not show their courteous attitude. I don’t want such children,” he said.

“I agree that students need to be encouraged to become creative, and need to enjoy freedom to grow up well. However, I feel that the freedom here is a bit too far,” he said.

What are the specific features of the new education method?

It’s clear that at Giang Vo School, students can be closer to their teachers than at any other schools. One could easily feel the openness in the communication between students and teachers.

The teachers here do not start the lessons in normal way, but they recall the knowledge given in the previous lessons by raising attractive questions. All the students here are encouraged to express their opinions, including the opinions about minor issues.

And if a student forgets the previous lessons, he would be able to open the textbook and review the lesson before answering the teachers’ questions. Especially, teachers must not disparage their students, while students would receive compliments when they finish exercises well or do good things.
