Vietnam - HCM City to use web to fight corruption

VietNamNet Bridge – The HCM City authority has asked its anti-corruption steering committee to create a website to support the city's fight against corruption.
"It will provide the public with transparent information about anti-corruption activities and be an address where city's residents can send necessary information about Government officials and civil servants' corruption and negative action," said Le Hoang Quan, chairman of the HCM City People's Committee.
Addressing a meeting on counter-corruption on Friday, Quan urged relevant agencies to thoroughly resolve people's petitions and accusations and to seriously punish officials and civil servants' corruption and negative actions.
Quan also urged agencies to speed up investigations, prosecutions and trials of corruption cases.
According to the steering board for counter-corruption, in the first nine months of 2011, the city investigated 89 cases of wrongdoing by State agencies in the city, and asked them to refund over VND15 billion (US$728,155) to the State coffers, and to confiscate 71,816 sq. metres of land and one house.
The board also asked relevant agencies to hand down administrative punishments to 48 groups and 70 individuals involved in wrongdoing.
Four cases were transferred to the investigation police.
